Address Assignments & Guidelines
Memo
Each house, mobile home, utility, or
structure in the unincorporated limits of Rapides Parish must have a
valid 911 address, to provide a more efficient and effective
emergency response service. It is your responsibility to affix
the assigned number on the structure or nearby, designating the
location. This office updates all other branches of local
government to help improve response times and delivery of parcel.
Address assignments are free of charge

Size & Type of Number
Numbers must be made of a permanent durable material (painted and
stick on numbers not acceptable) and shall be in a contrasting color
from the house so it may be easily seen from the road.
- Residential - minimum 3 inches in height

Numbers can be purchased from hardware stores, lumber yards,
Wal-Mart and K-Mart Stores, etc.
Location of Number
All numbers must be conspicuously placed immediately above, on or at
the side of the proper door of each building so that the number can
be seen plainly from the street line.
If the house/manufactured home is situated more than 50 feet from
the street, the number must be placed at the intersection of the
driveway and road on one of the following:
- gate post
- fence post

- or other permanent structure
If your mailbox is on your property (not across the street) and
you choose to put the numbers on it, then the numbers must be
displayed on both sides of the mailbox post only (not the box
itself) or on both sides of a bracket mounted on top of the mailbox
